Antarctic series 2016

Following a trip around the Antarctic Peninsula  I produced series of small oil-on-board paintings, and some larger canvases.  It was an amazing experience.   The Antarctic is sublimely beautiful and the wildlife extraordinary. The abandoned whaling station must be one of the loneliest places on the planet.  The few marked graves are compellingly moving.

There's also the realization that the station was only abandoned when the whalers had decimated the whale population to the point where the industry ceased to be viable.  The huge rendering plants are now rusted away and falling over ......  both monument and metaphor.
